Cornell Institute for Biology Teachers, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (http://cibt.bio.cornell.edu/) The institute exists to update the knowledge of high school teachers in modern biology. A second purpose is to provide teachers with hands-on experience with lab exercises suitable for use in high schools and to provide resources for implementing the lab exercises in their classes. A third goal is to facilitate the formation of a network of participants and Cornell biologists.

Another program developed interdisciplinary, hands-on activities for middle school science students. Middle school science teachers worked with CIBT alumni (high school biology teachers) and Cornell scientists to develop innovative lab activities for middle school science classes. The activities are being shared with other teachers at local, state, and national workshops.
